ONE QUESTION AT A TIME
How a conversation with Monk works
You do not need to prepare a perfect account. Enter, write what is occupying your attention, and let the conversation move from the concrete situation toward a more useful understanding of what you are living through.
1. Begin with what happened
You can write one simple sentence: “I had a problem at work,” “I do not know whether to end a relationship,” or “I have felt restless for days.” You can also say that you do not know where to begin. The first task is not to solve everything, but to place one real experience in front of you.
2. Monk looks for the source of the difficulty
The reply adapts to your words and tries to distinguish facts, interpretations, needs, fear, and desire. It normally includes one question so the exchange does not become an interrogation. With each turn, the session context allows the conversation to deepen without starting again.
When useful, Monk may suggest a pause, a clearer way to name the situation, a message you could send, or one small and testable next step.
3. You decide what happens next
A valuable conversation does not always end with a final answer. It may end with a cleaner decision, a less confusing emotion, better preparation for a conversation, or the recognition that you need professional support or someone you trust.
You can ask to change language, turn the music off, alter the terminal color, or end the session. The interface and pace serve the conversation.
- Web: visual presentation, accessible menus, and optional ambient music.
- Sessions have limits to keep the service available and contain costs.
- Monk is not an emergency service and does not replace medical or psychological care.
Returning to a session
Return to a room that is still open and the conversation picks up where it left off, without repeating the opening animation. After an unexpected server restart, your browser can automatically recover the last confirmed state if it still has what is needed to authenticate it.
A room expires after 24 hours of inactivity. Recovery is not a permanent backup and cannot guarantee an answer that was still arriving. To start afresh, ask Monk and confirm the new conversation.
Take your conversation with you
Ask Monk to download your conversation. You will receive an encrypted .monk capsule containing the conversation up to that point. Keep it if you want to continue another day.
In a new conversation, tell Monk that you have a previous capsule. A dialog will let you select the file and verify its authenticity before adding it as context. You do not need to copy and paste its contents.
The capsule is a backup you choose to keep; it is different from automatic recovery in an open browser tab.
